Equestrian Bronze Statues
Equestrian statues were original dedicated to rulers and men of prominence but today at Gettysburg there are eight Civil War Generals that are honored with an equestrian statue. An equestrian statue is simply an individual of prominence astride a horse. From the Latin “eques” meaning “knight”, deriving from “equus” meaning “horse” the equestrian is often the pinnacle of a sculptor’s career. The sculptor H.K. Bush Brown has the honor of having sculpted three bronze equestrians at Gettysburg. The equestrian statue was also the most expensive statue dedicated to an individual to construct.
Although there are six Northern Equestrian statues I have only completed the ones noted below.
