Credit photos of the sculptor and the clay in process to:
Ron Tunison P.O. Box 141 Cairo, N.Y. 12413
Sculptor Ron Tunison in his studio with the full size clay statue.
Above, Tunison working on the maquette of the memorial in his studio. In the foreground a cold cast bronze statue of the memorial can be seen on the table.
A close-up view of the maquette and the cold cast statue.
Reference photographs taken of several models and used by the sculptor can be seen in the background. Tunison would consult with Juanita Leisch, a well known expert on vintage clothing in order to maintain historical accuracy. The models when photographed, would actually be wearing an original Civil War era dress. The dress portrayed on the memorial was the type worn as a "working" dress by women during the Civil War.
Tunison would frequently photograph his sculpture while in process. He indicated that these photographs would reveal features that were not easily observed in the clay statue. The above photograph was from his work done on May 2, 2002. Several small pieces of clay ( still soft ) can be seen on the photograph.
