"THEN"
A Tipton photograph taken of a group of veterans and their families (maybe the 137th NY) of Greene's Brigade attending the dedication of the Greene monument. Note the observation tower in the background.
"NOW"
The current view looking northward. Note again the tower in the background.
The original camera position of the 1907 image is now overgrown with foliage making it difficult to recreate the original image.
The veterans attending the dedication would be present medals to commemorate the dedication of the Greene Monument.
An original Greene Monument commemorative medal as worn by the attending veterans.
Several veterans can be seen in the above photograph wearing their Greene dedication medals.
"THEN"
The same group that attended the Greene dedication would also have their photograph taken at the Devil's Den. The monument dedication ceremonies would begin on Friday the 27th at 3:00 P. M. This photo was probably taken before the ceremonies as the group is wearing the same clothes. Also, for reference, sunset on Friday, September 27, 1907 was 5:59 P.M.
"NOW"
The large flat boulder at the Devils Den that the veterans and their families had their photograph recorded. Compare the 1907 photograph with the modern view above. Very little has changed.
"THEN"
The family of George S. Greene would attend the dedication of the monument. The large boulder that is in front of the group is still there today.
I have a hunch the leaning tree in the background can still be seen today.
"NOW"
The current view.
Veterans proudly wear their Grand Army of the Republic "GAR" uniforms.
The veteran of Greene's Brigade wears a badge with a star next to his monument dedication medal. His spouse also wears a Star Badge on her coat lapel. The fellow in the front appears to have a Star Badge on his hat. The Star represents the Corps Badge of the 12th Army Corps of which Greene's Brigade was part of.
